About the Role
Horizons Youth Services at Milwaukee Job Corps Center provides innovative, quality educational and job training programs to enable young people to succeed in today's competitive job market and keep pace with the ever-changing dynamics of our worldwide economy.
Responsibilities
- Performs as an instructional facilitator in a regular classroom setting, presenting instruction in varied classes and activities, including but not limited to preparatory and developmental Academic and Career Technical Education (CTE) foundational skills, Workplace Communications, Employability Skills, Information Technology, Health Education, Driver’s Education preparation coursework, and CSS Standards.
- Facilitates advanced training opportunities for students and assists approved applicants in applying to participating colleges.
- Works to maximize the number of PELL grants secured by students.
- Develops and evaluates Career Preparation curriculum, coordinating with vocational instructors and career transition staff.
- Prepares for classroom activities and maintains discipline to ensure maximum learning and student engagement.
- Establishes strong student/instructor rapport and maintains students’ personal folders, recording data such as test scores, assessments, attendance, and incident reports.
- Participates in student evaluation performance (ESPs) and provides regular feedback to students on their performance and employability skills.
- Provides job development, placement services, and career counseling to students and graduates, including assistance with employment applications and resumes.
- Coordinates placement services with agencies, One Stop Centers, and employers, providing current labor market information to students.
- Completes and submits required paperwork for Job Corps Placement Assistance Records and maintains student placement files per DOL and Horizons Youth Services policies.
- Conducts follow-up and post-placement interviews with students 6 and 12 months after separation.
- Assists students in developing career goals, arranging required tests (e.g., ASVAB, ACT, Driver’s License), and assessing their readiness for career transition.
- Provides training in job search skills and independent living skills to prepare students for successful transitions.
- Works toward meeting performance management goals, maintains good housekeeping, and complies with safety practices.
- Models, mentors, and monitors appropriate Career Success Standards.
Requirements
- Above average public speaking skills and experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Computer literacy.
- Ability to work some evening hours and periodic weekends.
- Ability to travel periodically.
