About the role
The Employment Security Commission is seeking a Career Coordinator to manage career assessment and vocational counseling services at the Duncan & Lawton Centers. This position operates under a case management system to deliver employment services, with a focus on priority services to special-needs clients including veterans.
Responsibilities
- Manage and promote career assessment and vocational counseling through applicant interviews and qualification evaluations to determine needs for employment, job skills, placement, training, and referral
- Utilize EmployOklahoma for registering customers for employment, unemployment services, and additional education and training services
- Establish claims for Unemployment Insurance benefits, including interpreting benefit provisions of multi-state unemployment insurance laws, analyzing claims for accurate information, fact-finding, and maintaining Unemployment Insurance files
- Communicate with management, employers, applicants, claimants, and coworkers concerning job orders, referrals, job developments, and unemployment insurance benefits in a timely fashion
- Prepare clear, concise oral or written reports as needed
- Manage career assessment, vocational counseling, job placement, employment services, and other social services in conformity to Department of Labor state and federal applicable laws and regulations with priority service to veterans and other special-needs applicants
- Utilize excellent customer-service skills to ensure optimal results for workforce center activities
- Provide resource room assistance with unemployment insurance eligibility, filing UI claims, training on UI functions, and UI compensation services
- Assist with workforce center receptionist duties as assigned
- Participate in team meetings and required training, including cross training
- Utilize office machinery in accordance with safety and security protocols
- Maintain on-site attendance for direct interaction with staff, clients, and office resources
Requirements
- 5 years of experience in employment services, career or vocational guidance and counseling, personnel, recruitment, training, customer services, or social services related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university for 3 years of the required work experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, Teams), the Internet, and ability to learn other software as needed
- Ability to lift, carry, and move objects of up to 25 pounds

- Knowledge of spelling, punctuation, and business English; business mathematics; modern office methods and procedures; employment practices and problems; current economic and social trends, programs and problems; community and social service providers; principles of interviewing; social assistance requirements; U.S. Department of Labor one-stop workforce initiative; laws, rules, policies and regulations of public employment service, unemployment compensation, job training, and social services programs; occupations and industries; basic psychology and human relations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Pay
Annual salary of $40,948.00 ($19.69 per hour). Full-time, non-exempt position.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
