About the role

The Career Coordinator position is a full-time, non-exempt role based in Tulsa, OK, with primary working hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The position is responsible for managing and promoting career assessment and vocational counseling through applicant interviews and qualification evaluations to determine employment needs, job skills, placement, training, and referrals under a case management system. The role ensures optimal delivery of employment services at the center, with a focus on priority services for special-needs clients, and requires on-site attendance for direct interaction with staff, clients, and office resources.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and promote career assessment and vocational counseling via applicant interviews and qualification evaluations to determine needs for employment, job skills, placement, training, referral, etc., under a case management system.
  • Ensure the optimal delivery of multiple employment services provided at the center within business hours, with a focus on priority services to special-needs clients.
  • Utilize EmployOklahoma for registering customers for employment, unemployment services, and additional education and training services.
  • Establish claims for Unemployment Insurance benefits, including interpreting benefit provisions of multi-state unemployment insurance laws, analyzing claims for accurate and complete information, fact-finding, and maintaining UI files with priority service to all categories of special-needs clients.
  • Communicate with management, employers, applicants, claimants, and coworkers regarding job orders, referrals, job developments, and unemployment insurance benefits in a timely fashion; prepare clear, concise oral or written reports as needed.
  • Professionally manage career assessment, vocational counseling, job placement, employment services, and other social services offered at the local American Job Center in conformity with applicable laws and regulations, with priority service to veterans and other special-needs applicants.
  • Utilize excellent customer-service skills to ensure optimal results for workforce center activities, maintaining an office atmosphere conducive to friendly customer service.
  • Provide resource room assistance with unemployment insurance (UI) eligibility, filing UI claims, training on UI functions, and UI compensation services under a case management system.
  • Assist with workforce center receptionist duties as assigned.
  • Participate in team meetings and required training or cross-training to provide professional and timely assistance with workforce center duties.
  • Utilize office machinery in accordance with safety and security protocols.

  • Knowledge of: spelling, punctuation, and business English; business mathematics; modern office methods and procedures; employment practices and problems; current economic and social trends, programs, and problems; community and social service providers; principles of interviewing; social assistance requirements; U.S. Department of Labor one-stop workforce initiative; laws, rules, policies, and regulations of public employment service, unemployment compensation, job training, and social services programs; occupations and industries; basic psychology and human relations.
  • Skills and Competencies: excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements: 5 years of experience in employment services, career or vocational guidance and counseling, personnel, recruitment, training, customer services, or social services related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university for 3 years of the required work experience.

Special Skills/Requirements

  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in OESC’s standard software (Microsoft Office - Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, and Teams), the Internet, and the ability to learn other software as needed.
  • Physical Requirements: Capable of lifting, carrying, and moving objects up to 25 pounds.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Work is typically performed in an office setting with climate control and moderate noise levels. The role requires talking, standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms. Regular periods of sitting or standing and daily use of computer and phone are required. Occasional use of office machinery in accordance with safety and security protocols is also necessary.
