Key Responsibilities
- Serves as scrub assistant or monitor/recorder for cardiology and radiology studies.
- Prepares and positions patients for invasive procedures.
- Aids with cardiovascular tests and records patient hemodynamic activity using electronic equipment, recording devices, and lab instruments.
- Manages arterial and venous access sites post-procedure, including sheath removal and hemostatic devices.
- Sets up, maintains, and troubleshoots Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) when required.
- Recognizes cardiac arrhythmias and hemodynamic waveforms, alerting team per protocol.
- Administers intra-coronary or intra-arterial medications under physician supervision.
- Prepares and maintains sterile field using aseptic technique.
- Prepares, maintains, and operates hemodynamic and monitoring equipment.
- Starts and maintains IVs with appropriate training and certification.
- Uses IVUS machine and Site Rite ultrasound machine.
- Performs basic and advanced life support, including defibrillation.
- Conducts point-of-care tests like activated clotting time (ACT), oxygen saturations, and arterial blood gases (ABG).
- Provides patient education on procedures.
- Restocks supplies, maintains clean work areas, and assists with patient transport.
- Performs quality assurance, troubleshoots equipment, and initiates vendor service calls.
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of accredited invasive cardiovascular technologist program, or 2 years allied health education (e.g., nursing, respiratory therapy, radiographic technology, emergency medicine) plus 2 years recent on-the-job training in interventional Cath Lab.
- Ability to recognize and interpret cardiac dysrhythmias.
- Analytical skills to monitor patient condition and perform hemodynamic calculations.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from American Heart Association.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association.
- One of the following within 12 months of hire: Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES), ARRT-Vascular Interventional Radiography, ARRT-Cardiac Interventional Radiography, or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS).
- Ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years recent interventional Cath Lab experience.
- RCIS for cardiovascular labs or RCES for electrophysiology.
