About the role
The position involves performing cardiac ultrasound procedures, including echocardiograms and stress tests, under the supervision of a cardiologist. The role requires a high level of technical expertise and the ability to manage a variety of patient conditions.
Responsibilities
- Obtain patient histories and perform pre-ultrasound assessments.
- Verify the appropriateness of the ultrasound procedure based on patient history and assess for any inconsistencies.
- Communicate with patients, ensuring their safety and comfort during the procedure.
- Perform routine and complex cardiac ultrasound procedures such as echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms, and TEE exams.
- Assist physicians in acquiring images from the esophagus during TEE exams.
- Identify and evaluate appropriate anatomical and physiological consequences of disease processes.
- Organize and document acquired data accurately for the interpreting physician.
- Notify the interpreting physician of critical values and provide feedback on peer-reviewed cases.
- Maintain efficient patient flow and assist in the education of sonographer students, residents, and medical students.
- Administer and document IVs, UEA, and bubble studies as needed.
- Assist with equipment maintenance and perform service calls as required.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Graduate of a programmatically accredited program in cardiac ultrasound/echocardiography or a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate degree in Health Science.
- Certification as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS).
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Basic computer skills.
