About the role
As a Candymaker, you will be an essential part of our passionate kitchen team, crafting the finest handcrafted confections. You’ll measure and mix high-quality ingredients, operate and maintain specialized candy-making equipment, and uphold our strict quality, efficiency, and safety standards. You will also ensure your workspace remains clean and sanitized throughout your shift, contributing to a smooth and efficient production process.
Responsibilities
- Operate kitchen equipment such as large mixers, steam kettles, fire cookers, and large pots in a safe and proficient manner according to standards, guidelines, and instructions.
- Mix and/or cook candies in batches per Russell Stover Chocolates standards.
- Read and understand formulas/recipes, measurements, tapes, scales, and thermometers.
- Read and understand product specifications established by Russell Stover Chocolates and recognize deviations from those specifications.
- Monitor more than one batch or process simultaneously.
- Perform clean-up activities as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by plant management.
- Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines to ensure product quality and uphold food safety standards.
- Complete and follow FSQA training and programs to comply with regulatory requirements, ensure consumer safety, and support the plant’s food safety and quality objectives.
- Promptly report and take appropriate action on any observed or potential food safety hazards, process deviations, or non-conformities by notifying the designated plant supervisor.
- Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of the company’s Food Safety Culture through engagement and actions aligned with your role.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to speak, read, and write English fluently, with or without an accommodation.
- Able to read and understand recipes.
- Possess basic math skills.
- Possess basic computer skills.
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. consistently throughout the shift.
- Able to routinely and frequently stand, stoop, bend, and lift overhead.
- Able to stand on hard surfaces for the duration of the shift.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience working in a commercial kitchen.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
Schedule
Typical hours for this role are 1:30 pm - 12:00 am, Monday through Thursday. During peak season, overtime will be required.
Work Environment
- Safety First: Protective gear provided; Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) training on day one, with daily safety tips.
- Surroundings: Work alongside automated packing machines, forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and chocolate candy banks/steels in a dynamic environment.
- Active & Engaging Work: On your feet for extended periods, moving around, climbing ladders, or lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable Climate: Climate-controlled environment in most roles.
- Appealing Smells: Sweet aromas of chocolate; you may leave smelling like chocolate!
