About the role
The Breast Health Center Front Desk Clinic and Infusion Coordinator oversees various clerical and administrative tasks to support daily patient services across multiple clinical areas, ensuring efficient operations and optimal patient experience.
Responsibilities
- Greeting patients
- Managing check-in and check-out procedures
- Patient registration
- Insurance verification
- Appointment scheduling for various Cancer Services clinics, such as the Multi-Specialty Clinic, BMT, Breast Clinic, and Hillcrest Cancer Clinic
- Scheduling and coordinating complex appointments, including clinic visits, infusion and fast track appointments, and lab visits for both oncology and non-oncology patients
- Continuous communication with patients regarding appointment updates
- Conducting registration processes
- Verifying insurance and authorization
- Updating patient demographics
- Collecting co-pays
- Preparing check-in forms and wristbands
- Managing petty cash
- Reviewing and updating work queues
- Handling Epic InBasket messages
- Scheduling mammograms and ultrasounds
- Liaising with physicians, nurses, and other staff across various UCSD departments
Requirements
- Three (3) years of relevant experience working in a large healthcare organization
- Prior scheduling experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced customer service skills in person and over the phone
- Strong computer skills and abilities managing multiple systems during calls
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
- Strong attention to detail, organization, time management skills and abilities
- Ability to build strong relationships with physicians, clinical and non-clinical team members, colleagues and leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in Oncology, and/or a multispecialty clinic setting
- Knowledge of Oncology, Infusion, Imaging, Radiology, Lab, and/or multispecialty scheduling
- Experience with insurance, authorization, and referrals, including knowledge of third-party payors, including federal, state, and private health plans
- Previous call center Experience
- Epic Experience
- Medical terminology training or certificate
- Bilingual: English and Spanish
Special Conditions
- Must be able to work various hours, including overtime, weekends, holidays, and locations based on business needs
- Position expected to float to multiple locations based on department staffing needs
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical
