Cancer Care Clinic - Clinical Nurse

The Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine is an international leader in cancer treatment, research, prevention, education, and community outreach. It is the only cancer center in Missouri and within a 240-mile radius of St. Louis to hold the Comprehensive Cancer Center designation from the National Cancer Institute.

This role is located in the 24/7 Cancer Care Clinic, an outpatient treatment area for patients receiving chemotherapy, blood products, IV hydration, central line and port care, phlebotomy, and other scheduled appointments. The clinic is staffed with nurses, patient care technicians, and Nurse Practitioners who manage symptom concerns and urgent care needs for oncology patients. The clinic also initiates care for patients who meet specific criteria for hospital admission.

Schedule

• Night Shift: 7:00 pm - 7:30 am
• 12-hour shifts
• Approximately every 6th weekend rotation

About the Role

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
• Educates patients and their families on managing illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs and medication administration.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Participates in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patient, family, or caregiver, following established guidelines and standards of nursing care.
• Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
• Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.

This is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.

Requirements

• Nursing Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing (required)
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (preferred)
• No prior experience required
• RN license (required)

• Oncology or Critical Care experience
