About the role
This internship offers hands-on operational internal audit experience, exposing you to various portfolios within the third line of defense. You will develop skills in identifying and evaluating risk, business process controls, and technology controls while applying American Express’ internal audit methodology.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a key team member on operational audit projects by evaluating risk, documenting processes, implementing audit tests (business process and technology controls), and detailing results in accordance with IAG methodology.
- Research and learn about audit entities, assessing potential risks and their business impact using evidence-based conclusions.
- Support leaders and senior auditors by collaborating in a team environment, attending walkthroughs, and documenting work papers.
- Partner with business process audit teams and management to understand key processes, risks, and controls; develop control tests; and analyze results.
- Build audit proficiency through professional development, including strengthening data skills.
Potential Projects or Key Deliverables
- Support operational audit projects to evaluate risk, document processes, complete audit tests, and document results per IAG methodology.
- Deliverables may include audit planning checklists, work papers, audit reports, or other audit documentation.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s degree program.
- Expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
- Employment eligibility to work in the United States (visa sponsorship not provided).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Pursuing a BA, BS, or equivalent degree in accounting, finance, information systems, data analytics, or a related field.
