About the role

American Express’ Internal Audit Group (IAG) protects and enhances organizational value by providing independent, objective, and risk-based assurance and advisory services, influencing how the Company manages risk. IAG leverages data, automation, and AI to deliver timely, pragmatic, and forward-looking risk insights while developing leaders and enriching the colleague experience.

This internship offers hands-on operational audit experience, exposing you to various portfolios within the third line. You’ll develop skills in identifying and evaluating risk, business process controls, and technology controls across American Express while applying our internal audit methodology.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key team member on operational audit projects by evaluating risk, documenting processes, implementing audit tests (business process and technology controls), and detailing results in accordance with IAG methodology.
  • Research and learn about audit entities, assessing risks and their business impact using critical thinking and evidence-based conclusions.
  • Support leaders and senior auditors by collaborating in a team environment, attending walkthroughs, and documenting work papers.
  • Partner with business process audit teams and management to understand key processes, risks, and controls; develop control tests; and analyze results.
  • Build audit proficiency through professional development, including strengthening data skills.

Potential projects may include documenting audit planning checklists, work papers, audit reports, or other audit-related deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s degree program with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
  • Pursuing a degree in accounting, finance, information systems, data analytics, or a related field (preferred).
  • Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States (visa sponsorship is not available for these positions).
