Campus Service Worker
About the role
The department of Facilities Management at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Campus Custodian at the Health Sciences Center.
Responsibilities
- Cleans public area and furnishings; sweeps, mops, scrubs, disinfects, waxes, and polishes floors, hallways, stairs, elevators, and related fixtures.
- Utilizes brooms, mops, rags, brushes, and powered scrubbing, buffing, and waxing machines.
- Cleans and disinfects bathroom walls, floors, fixtures, stalls, mirrors, lavatories, commodes, and other plumbing facilities.
- Replenishes bathroom supplies including toilet tissue, towels, and soap.
- Vacuums and shampoos carpets, rugs, and upholstery using commercial vacuum cleaners and shampooers.
- Dusts and polishes furniture, desks, tabletops, file cabinets, bookcases, and related woodwork.
- Empties and cleans waste receptacles and recycle bins.
- Cleans area around disposal sites.
- Washes and cleans walls, ceilings, doors, windows, radiators, and ventilators.
- Mixes, dilutes, and uses commercial strength disinfectants, germicidal detergents, and other stringent cleaning solutions following established safety procedures.
- Calculates area to determine amounts of cleaning solutions required.
- Moves, sets up, rearranges, and dismantles desks, tables, chairs, displays and other related equipment using dolly, hand cart, or physically lifting objects.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Zero to six (0-6) months of directly related work experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
Qualifications
- Knowledge of operating custodial equipment
- Ability to bend, stoop, and carry items as necessary
- Ability to learn how to apply custodial products
- Read and write and follow safety instructions
- Ability to maintain proper attendance levels and meet deadlines
- Ability to work overtime as required
- Ability to manage time and resources effectively
- Ability to operate a computer and accurately enter information
- Ability to function in highly stressful situations
- Excellent communication skills, ability to perform work in a professional capacity, technical language as well as in simple, everyday terminology utilizing both written and oral communications
- Self-motivated/ability to function with minimal supervision/direction and lead by example
- Ability to work in varying temperature environments
- Ability to crawl and climb heights over 10 feet
- Ability to lift materials over 50 lbs
- Ability to work mandatory overtime and respond during off hours as needed
- Ability to work safely around moving equipment, heights and uneven surfaces
