Campus Safety Coordinator
Job Summary
The Campus Safety Coordinator (CSC) assists schools in providing intervention services for at-risk students by building positive relationships with students and leveraging those relationships to fully engage students in the learning environment. The primary focus of the CSC is to work collaboratively with staff and students to promote a positive learning climate by overseeing the safety of the school campus, monitoring attendance, enforcing truancy prevention programs and disciplinary policies, reporting pertinent information to appropriate school administrators, and supporting administrative and/or campus activities. The CSC will consistently promote the expectation of high achievement for all students by providing preventive support and is responsive to referrals for students who are experiencing personal, social, or academic barriers to regular school attendance.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check.
- Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- First Aid certification obtained within 3 months from date of hire
- Speak, read, write, present professionally, analyze, understand, and interpret written and verbal communications in English
- Basic experience and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, etc.)
- Valid Utah Driver's License and evidence of insurability
Prior to Employment
- Fingerprinting and Background Check
- First Aid Certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with student groups, community support agencies, school districts, community outreach agencies or related organizations
- Experience working in security, law enforcement, or related field
- Intermediate experience and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, etc.)
- Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Support a school-based approach to promoting the importance of regular attendance through implementation of appropriate strategies and coordination of referrals to appropriate resources and student support services
- Adhere to and apply school, district and legal policies and procedures and promote an environment conducive to student achievement and well-being
- Aid school personnel with maintaining the safety of the school community and facilities and assist with the supervision of assigned school activities
- Monitor school security systems such as security video, alarm systems, locks/gates, and doors to minimize and eliminate potential security issues and unsafe conditions
- Communicate information regularly with relevant school personnel and students to foster strong connections to the school and coordinate efforts of improving attendance and maintaining a safe learning and working environment
- Implement intervention protocols for students that address academic and school attendance issues, alleviate isolation, identify support resources, and provide referrals to counseling or administrative staff
- Collaborate with administrators, students, parents, and other support teams to implement prevention and intervention strategies to improve attendance rates
- Identify visual or aural cues such as facial expressions, body language, physical surroundings, noises, etc., to accurately identify potential areas of concern or inappropriate activity
- Under the direction of administrative guidelines and policy, refer incidents to appropriate site personnel (e.g., injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, etc.)
- Inform students of school policies and enforcement procedures to ensure understanding and the potential consequences of attendance policy violations
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
