About the role

The Director of Department Technology Services provides strategic leadership and hands-on oversight for a broad portfolio of information technology services supporting Campus Life Services. This role is responsible for planning, delivering, and sustaining reliable, secure, and scalable technology solutions that enable business operations and enhance the campus community experience.

Responsibilities

  • Leading a multidisciplinary team that provides the technical, analytical, and operational expertise to deploy, support, maintain, and enhance the department’s systems portfolio.
  • Establishes departmental strategy, operational objectives and work plans, and leads multiple subordinate managers who each have responsibility over specialty functions.
  • Working in close partnership with UCSF leadership and key stakeholders to develop, modify, and execute departmental IT strategies, initiatives, and policies that align technology services with customer department needs and UCSF strategic objectives.
  • Serving on departmental executive leadership teams as the IT leadership representative, providing strategic input and oversight for departmental technology planning, investments, and execution in alignment with UCSF policies and priorities.
  • Managing, preparing, administering, and directing resources. Reviewing and approving recommendations for functional programs. Establishing budgets and monitoring department adherence to approved budgets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and 10 years of direct experience, as described below.
  • 10+ years of IT experience in systems implementation and integration, including the planning, deployment, and ongoing support of complex application and integration portfolios.
  • Requires an in-depth knowledge of the applications programming development function and a broad knowledge of the IT organization.
  • Knowledge of and experience with information security, risk management, and compliance requirements including PCI.
  • Knowledge of campus auxiliary and facility services sufficient for strategic planning, technology assessment and direction.
  • Excellent ability to establish metrics for department and employee goals.
  • Experience managing external vendors and partners.
  • Experience managing projects and initiatives, including large or capital-funded projects.
  • Very strong ability to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate and influence others and develop and maintain high standards of customer service.
  • Extensive experience managing technical staff including those that are represented.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; accounting, information technology, Information security, and payroll.
  • Demonstrated leadership in the strategic adoption and responsible implementation of generative AI technologies, including the ability to evaluate AI outputs critically, ensure compliance with data privacy and security standards, establish governance and best practices, and drive the effective integration of AI tools to enhance operational efficiency, innovation, and decision-making across the organization.
