About the role

The Think by the Bay Campus Life Coordinator provides coordination and oversight of residential life supports and social and independent living skill development opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities (ID) participating in the Think by the Bay program at CSUEB. The position is part-time, grant-funded, hourly, up to 18 hours per week, not benefit-eligible, and temporary through June 30, 2027, with the possibility of reappointment, not to exceed a total of three years in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Lead work direction, train, and schedule Independent Living Coaches (ILCs), undergraduate students who provide residential peer support in the campus dorms.
  • Develop and implement training protocols and monitor the quality and consistency of independent living supports (e.g., meal prep, hygiene, budgeting, safety).
  • Serve as a liaison to CSU East Bay Housing to support move-in/move-out processes, roommate arrangements, and student housing issues.
  • Collaborate with Disability Services to ensure accessibility within residential settings.
  • Plan and coordinate evening and weekend social activities that support life skills, confidence, and the development of peer relationships.
  • Work with Peer Mentors and Campus Life Coordinators to align social engagement efforts with student goals.
  • Encourage students to participate in campus clubs, organizations, and recreational opportunities.
  • Accompany or arrange support for community outings (e.g., shopping, public transportation practice, events).
  • Track and document student progress toward independent living goals.
  • Communicate regularly with families, the Program Director, and support staff regarding student needs.
  • Support students in exploring and accessing on-campus job opportunities, in collaboration with career services and employers.
  • Provide basic job-readiness coaching as it relates to time management, self-advocacy, and professional behavior.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

Requirements

  • The equivalent of two (2) years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.
  • Experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.
  • A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field.
  • Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • At least two years of experience working with individuals with ID in residential, educational, or life-skills contexts.
  • Experience supervising or training staff.
  • Experience working in higher education housing or student life.
  • Familiarity with transition-age youth, self-determination principles, and inclusive postsecondary models.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of independent living and supported decision-making strategies.
  • Ability to coordinate logistics and staff schedules across multiple systems.
  • Experience with person-centered planning and student engagement.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, document progress, and work independently.
