About the role

A Dispatch Call Taker will answer phones in the dispatch center, receive requests for runs from facilities and complaints from individuals, and input all necessary information for patient transport. They will also determine the nature of run requests and broadcast orders to crews.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge and compliance of company policies and procedures.
  • Ensures equipment is ready for use at the start of each shift.
  • Ensures security of buildings and company property.
  • Performs daily inspections and performs housekeeping duties.
  • Knows local geography including hospitals, public venues, and street systems.
  • Responds promptly and accurately to all calls for service.
  • Utilizes appropriate Emergency Medical Dispatch and company procedures to determine call nature and give pre-arrival instructions.
  • Obtains and inputs complete intake information into the Computer Aided Dispatch system.
  • Maintains security and privacy of company and patient information according to HIPAA and regulations.
  • Accepts responsibility for recertification and other required licenses and certifications.
  • Remains on-duty and in uniform until properly relieved.
  • Sets an example of professionalism and leadership.
  • Places patient care and safety above all else.

Qualifications

  • High degree of personal integrity and responsibility.
  • Currently licensed, certified, or registered by appropriate state agencies.
  • Currently certified in Emergency Medical Dispatch by MPDS or equivalent organization.
  • Works effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Works in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Manages multiple activities without error.
  • Has superior spatial orientation ability.
  • Has good computer skills.
  • Interacts constructively and professionally with others.
  • Interacts effectively and professionally with patients, customers, clients, family members, bystanders, and the public.
  • Demonstrates consistent quality customer care.
  • Previous or current certification as Emergency Medical Technician preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • The ability to reach, push, and pull.
  • The ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • The ability to use phones and radios to communicate.
  • The ability to use a mouse or keyboard to input data.
  • The ability to view graphic and text data on multiple computer screens.
