About the role
The Call Taker position at CONFIRE is responsible for receiving and evaluating requests for emergency and non-emergency service. This role involves accurately entering fire, emergency medical, and local government calls into the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system for dispatchers.
Responsibilities
- Receives emergency and non-emergency calls for service and inquiries from the public and enters information in the CAD system.
- Screens incoming calls to determine nature and urgency.
- Applies protocol questioning, provides pre-arrival instructions and adjusts urgency as needed according to guidelines.
- Provides general information to the public regarding regulations and department policies; transfers low acuity, or non-emergency calls to appropriate agencies.
- Provides vacation and temporary relief as required.
- Provides other duties as required.
Requirements
- Typing: Typing speed of 30 WPM.
- Background: Candidates must undergo and successfully complete a background investigation, including a fingerprint check, and medical examination.
- Shifts: Candidates must be available for all shifts. Incumbents will be required to work rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and evenings, as well as mandatory overtime.
- Availability: CONFIRE operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Incumbents must be available to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and graveyard shifts, as required to meet operational needs.
