The Café Team Member’s role is an integral part of the efficient, enthusiastic team that makes Grand Central Bakery’s vibrant cafes such wonderful spaces. You’ll deliver outstanding customer service, prepare and serve delicious food and drink, and contribute to a positive, inclusive, and collaborative atmosphere in support of our mission, vision, and values.
Responsibilities
- Delivers outstanding customer service by following the 3 Steps to Great Service at all times.
- Shares knowledge about product sourcing with customers and team members, demonstrating enthusiasm for Grand Central Bakery’s mission, vision, and values.
- Goes the extra mile by delivering food to customers, engaging about products and specials, and anticipating customer needs.
- Stays calm and maintains composure during busy or uncertain situations.
- Works at all stations and shifts for which you are trained, including retail opening/closing, sandwich bar opening/closing, pastry baking, baking prep, and mid-shifts.
- Completes assigned work with efficiency and accuracy.
- Supports the training of team members by creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for new hires, answering questions, and modeling expected behaviors.
- Uses company systems (POS, R365, KDS) proficiently and follows training documents to complete work accurately.
- Adheres to proper POS and cash handling procedures with a high level of accuracy.
- Makes and serves all café products to Grand Central Bakery specifications, even during rushes, and removes substandard products from sale.
- Demonstrates a proactive, "pitches in" mentality by volunteering to help others, improving the café environment, and maintaining cleanliness through tasks like bussing, washing dishes, and completing cleaning duties.
- Reflects on strengths and areas for growth, seeks feedback, and engages in continuous learning.
- Acts in accordance with Grand Central Bakery’s mission, vision, and values in all aspects of the job.

Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English required.
- Maintains a valid Food Handler’s Card at all times and follows health department guidelines.
- Must demonstrate regular attendance by coming to work on scheduled days and being on time.
- Ability to add, subtract, and perform basic math with ease.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Ability to interact with customers for a full shift in a busy, loud environment with frequent change while maintaining outstanding customer service.
- Food service experience preferred.

Environmental Conditions
- Busy café environment with constant customer interaction, interruptions, and noise.
- Constant exposure to wheat flour dust and other grain dusts (rye, corn, oat).
- Regular exposure to common food allergens including eggs, soy, and dairy.
Pay
This position pays $17.65 per hour plus tips. Tips average $10.00 - $12.00 per hour. Non-exempt and overtime eligible.
Schedule
Part-time role requiring schedule flexibility, including days of the week, time of day, and weekends.
