Cafe Barista - Part Time

About the Role

Under the direction of the Food Services Director and Joplin Campus Café Lead, this position provides quality food service to all customers. The Barista should be knowledgeable of the building layout as they are often looked to as an information point. The barista should have exceptional social skills and maintain a professional and positive manner. This includes detailed knowledge of the James River Cafe coffee drink procedure as well as day-to-day operations of the cafe.

Responsibilities

  • Handle monetary transactions: accurately conduct sale transactions, maintain a balanced sales drawer, and make café deposits.
  • Operate espresso/brewing machines, bake, and clean with proper training.
  • Follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Maintain a safe environment and follow daily open and close procedures when applicable.
  • Adjust to changes in plans and implement solutions.
  • Manage inventory and supplies.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations.
  • Receive deliveries and confirm accuracy of invoices.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and required.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates great character such as honesty, integrity, and a positive attitude.

  • Must be punctual and dependable.
  • Enthusiasm to learn.
  • Willing to receive Food Handlers or ServSafe certification.
  • Able to lift 30 pounds, bend, and twist.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time.

  • Knowledge of daily café operations.
  • Ability to communicate in an effective and professional manner.
