CADD Tech - Transportation Generalist Senior or Transportation Generalist

About the role

The Transportation Generalist Senior or Transportation Generalist position at the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is responsible for completing computer-aided drafting and designing (CADD) functions and calculations, gathering data, and ensuring compliance with design standards. This role involves creating and revising alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and super elevations for construction plans, computing estimated quantities and pay items, and assisting in developing and designing elements to meet MnDOT, AASHTO, and FHWA standards.

Responsibilities

• Completes computer-aided drafting and designing (CADD) functions and calculations using Open Roads Designer and other software programs.
• Gathers data from other functional areas and reviews construction plans for compliance with CADD data standards and MnDOT’s design standards.
• Creates and revises alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and super elevations for construction plans.
• Computes estimated quantities and pay items for construction plans.
• Affords assistance in developing and designing elements for construction plans to ensure MnDOT, AASHTO, and FHWA standards are met.
• Uses and maintains project information efficiently to ensure information is readily available for plan preparation and other uses.
• Generates cross-sections and assists with construction limits and earthwork computations.
• Reviews drawings, calculations, tabulations, and other products in accordance with MnDOT’s Quality Management Process.
• Assists with cost estimates and makes design decisions within prescribed limits.
• Conducts background research on assigned issues.

Requirements

• Two years of experience performing design activities which must include GEOPAK Coordinate Geometry (COGO) or equivalent or related activities.
• A combination of one year experience performing preliminary design, roadway or bridge construction, materials, soils, surveys, and/or right of way or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience performing design activities.
• A two-year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience.
• One (1) year of experience utilizing computer-aided drafting and designing (CADD) or related activities.
• A Two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience.
• Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Qualifications

• Passing score of Level 5 or higher on the math portion of the computerized test and Level 5 or higher on the computerized reading test.

Skills

• Proficiency in computer-aided drafting and designing (CADD) software such as Open Roads Designer.
• Strong understanding of CADD data standards and MnDOT’s design standards.
• Ability to gather and review data from various functional areas.
• Knowledge of MnDOT’s Quality Management Process.
• Experience in conducting background research on assigned issues.

Pay

$27.14 - $35.09 / hourly; $52,597 - $65,981 / annually for Transportation Generalist Senior, and $25.19 - $31.60 / hourly; $52,596 - $65,980 / annually for Transportation Generalist.

Schedule

Day Shift, Monday - Friday.
