Transportation Generalist
About the role
The State of Minnesota seeks to hire up to 4 Transportation Generalists at the Albert Lea Truck Station location within District 6. Summer hours are Monday – Thursday; 6:30 am – 4:00 pm and Friday; 6:30 am – 10:30 am. Winter hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm; or a snow and ice shift, 12:00 am - 12:00 pm (A shift) or 12:00 pm - 12:00 am (B shift). During snow & ice operations employees are split into an A and B shift and will receive 8-hours of work or more depending on the length of the event. Hours may include overtime or various shifts depending on emergency situations and will include working nights, weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Perform all activities required for roadside maintenance
- Perform all roadway surface maintenance activities
- Service and make minor repairs to operating equipment
- Provide traffic control
- Perform basic construction monitoring duties and basic inspection activities
- Other duties as required
Requirements
- Must possess a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no Airbrake Restriction or equivalent from another state and obtain a valid Class A CDL with no Airbrake Restriction and Tanker Endorsement within 6 months of initial placement into the position and maintain it as a condition of employment.
- Must be immediately accessible to a phone and be able to report to work within one (1) hour of being called.
Qualifications
- One (1) year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, commercial landscaping, operating heavy equipment, or farm experience).
- Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (of at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits) will substitute for one year of experience.
- Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Pay
$25.19 - $31.60 / hourly; $52,597 - $65,981 / annually
