This role sits within a US manufacturing facility of a large, publicly traded materials science company with over 170 years of history, tens of thousands of employees worldwide, and annual revenue exceeding $15 billion. The team supports the drafting needs for equipment used to produce optical fiber and cable products.
Responsibilities
- Create, revise, and maintain 2D and 3D drawings for custom designed manufacturing equipment
- Convert legacy hand drawn and older 2D drawings into 3D models and associative drawings
- Correct redlined drawings and models issued by the drafting lead or engineering teams
- Create 2D drawings from existing 3D models built by other team members
- Collect data from engineering teams and incorporate it into the correct drawing
- Collect measurements and information from the production floor to update drawings
- Produce detail, sheet metal, weldment, and assembly drawings following company drafting standards
- Work from existing designs and engineering direction (no new product design work involved)
- Prepare drawing sets for release into the engineering system
Requirements
- Associate's degree in a drafting, CAD, or mechanical engineering technology field, or equivalent demonstrated 2D and 3D drafting proficiency
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in mechanical drafting
- Proficient in 3D CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor or a similar parametric modeling platform
- Working knowledge of ASME/ANSI drafting standards
- Comfortable managing drawing files within a PDM or vault-based system
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Autodesk Vault or another PDM/document management system
- AutoCAD experience, especially converting legacy 2D drawings into 3D models
- A.A.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology, A.O.S. in Drafting/CAD, or a formal drafting certificate/certification
- Experience producing sheet metal, weldment, or assembly drawings in a manufacturing environment
Schedule
- Hybrid schedule, Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM
- Overtime often required, with a target of 45 hours per week
