About the role

The CAD Technician transforms raw project data into precise, fully coordinated electrical construction documents. This role focuses on drafting and design support for engineering teams, building detailed 3D models of electrical systems, and layering in electrical auxiliary systems, power distribution, lighting, and fire alarm systems to produce complete, field-ready drawings. The position operates in a fast-paced production environment with multiple concurrent projects and tight deadlines, where high-quality, accurate work is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and provide detailed electrical designs and drawings to the engineering team.
  • Create accurate as-built drawings and update documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Design and specify site lighting, interior lighting, and emergency lighting systems for a variety of facilities.
  • Develop and maintain drawings that will be used by field installation teams.
  • Coordinate electrical lighting layouts with mechanical contract drawings to ensure accurate system placement.
  • Produce detailed electrical schematics and construction drawings for design-build projects.
  • Fill in technical details using existing drawings, rough sketches, specifications, and other project documentation.
  • Perform calculations to verify the accuracy of equipment and system placement.
  • Clean and refine incoming data, including rendering, redlining, and organizing drawing sets.
  • Research product specifications and datasheets as needed to resolve technical questions and confirm design details.
  • Log drawings and maintain database entries to keep project documentation organized and up to date.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings to review project schedules, priorities, and design milestones.
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously, including data centers, parking decks and exterior lighting upgrades, health care facilities, corporate offices, and industrial and automotive facilities.
  • Support design-build project delivery by producing coordinated electrical models and construction documents.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience as a BIM Modeler, Detailer, Technician, or Coordinator in an electrical or MEP design environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Revit, preferably with a focus on electrical systems.
  • Proven experience designing and building detailed 3D models of electrical systems, including conduits, fixtures, and panels.
  • Ability to complete accurate as-built drawings and update models based on field conditions.
  • Demonstrated capability to take raw data and convert it into working drawings, then develop those drawings into full construction documents.
  • Knowledge of electrical CAD, 3D CAD, and MEP drafting workflows.
  • Understanding of lighting systems design, including interior, exterior, and emergency lighting.
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering concepts, schematics, and design-build project processes.

Skills

  • Experience working with cable tray and conduit layouts within Revit or similar BIM platforms.
  • Exposure to design-build projects across automotive, industrial, commercial, maintenance, and green/energy-efficient sectors.
  • Experience with companies or environments focused on MEP engineering, electrical contracting, or large commercial and industrial projects.

Pay
