Cable Technician Trainee
About the role
The Cable Technician Trainee will work to install utilities and network infrastructure as part of a 5-person crew, taking guidance and direction. This role involves setting up network services for an enterprise retail leader in a warehouse environment. Under supervision, the trainee will safely install conduit, pipe, and cable services.
Responsibilities
- Operate equipment to install utilities according to project specifications.
- Work underground and at heights while minimizing surface disruption.
- Perform pull-backs for conduit, pipe, or cable installation.
- Read and interpret utility locates, bore profiles, and construction drawings.
- Safely identify and avoid existing utilities.
- Set up, operate, and maintain power equipment and tooling.
- Coordinate with ground crews, locators, and supervisors to ensure safe operations.
- Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized job site.
- Complete daily production and safety documentation.
- Follow all company, OSHA, and site-specific safety policies.
- Perform job site setup and cleanup, including loading and unloading tools, materials, and equipment.
- Hand-dig entry and exit pits as needed.
- Support potholing and utility exposure activities.
- Pull conduit, pipe, or cable during bore operations.
- Operate basic hand and power tools safely.
- Perform traffic control and site safety tasks when required.
- Assist with equipment maintenance and daily inspections.
Requirements
- Previous experience operating directional boring equipment preferred.
- Knowledge of cabling, including copper, fiber, or conduit.
- Ability to read utility locates and job plans.
- Mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
Work Environment
- Indoor/outdoor construction site and warehouse environment.
- Physical labor including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr. Individual compensation within this range will depend on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
