Cable Technician (Omaha, NE)
About the role
We are seeking an Entry Level Cable Technician to support structured cabling and network infrastructure projects on a military installation. This role involves installing, dressing, labeling, testing, and terminating copper and fiber optic cabling while maintaining high standards for quality, organization, and safety. The ideal candidate will have hands-on cabling experience and be comfortable working in a fast-paced field environment supporting network infrastructure deployments.
Responsibilities
- Install and support structured cabling systems, including copper and fiber optic infrastructure
- Install cable pathways, cable trays, and supporting hardware
- Pull, route, and dress CAT5e, CAT6, and fiber optic cabling
- Terminate, label, test, and troubleshoot copper and fiber optic cables
- Perform rack-and-stack activities and assist with network equipment installations
- Conduct cable testing using appropriate testing equipment
- Assist with fiber optic fusion splicing and OTDR testing as required
- Read and interpret floor plans, drawings, specifications, and installation documents
- Maintain accurate material management and inventory for installation projects
- Ensure work areas remain organized and professional
- Follow customer security requirements and site procedures
- Assist tenured technicians with project completion and troubleshooting efforts
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of structured cabling or telecommunications experience
- Experience installing and terminating CAT5e, CAT6, and fiber optic cabling
- Knowledge of cable pathways, cable trays, patch panels, and punch-down terminations
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and floor plans
- Experience using copper and fiber testing equipment
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Professional attitude and strong attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with fiber optic fusion splicing
- Experience performing OTDR testing
- Knowledge of OSP (Outside Plant) and ISP (Inside Plant) cabling environments
- Previous experience in secure or government facility environments

Pay
The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $28.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite, contract position based out of Offutt Air Force Base, NE.
