Job Description

The technician has a critical role in the fabrication process and ultimate delivery of the prototype systems through assembly of the electrical subcomponents. An individual who assists in laboratory or research work and operates experimental and technical equipment under the supervision of scientific personnel or technicians of higher grade. Must be able to work for periods of time without supervision.

The technician contributes to the fabrication of many of the prototype systems with specific job functions as:

  • Mechanical/electrical assembly of printed circuit board assemblies
  • Aid in higher level technicians in assembling chassis, cable, and PCB assemblies
  • Build wire harnessing of all configurations
  • Solder and de-solder through hole and SMT components
  • Cut, strip, crimp, solder, and terminate wire and connector with precision
  • Light to moderate lifting with a maximum 25 lbs
  • Fiber splicing

Requirements

  • Graduation from a two-year technical school or its equivalent
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Recognized self-motivator that seeks to continuously learn and challenge themselves
  • Computer literacy, proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • An excitement for fabricating complex parts that enable program teams to develop prototype systems that demonstrate technology of national importance
  • Knowledge of electronic color code
  • Ability to read schematics, assembly drawings, and mechanical drawings is a preferred, but not required
  • Must pass required in-house training certifications
  • A desire to develop advanced fabrication skills like wire bonding, flip chip technologies, direct die attach, selective soldering, fiber splicing
  • General knowledge of electronics including mechanical and electrical assembly of printed circuit board assemblies and wire bonding
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in PCB assembly, rework, and repair, with proficiency in soldering and handling electronic components.

Hiring Range

The hiring range is $33.18 - $37.73 per hour.

About the Role

The Group provides rapid fabrication, assembly, integration, and testing of advanced hardware prototypes for national security applications. Examples include the precision machining fiber mounts for airborne high-energy laser systems, multi-functional structures using additive processes for ground-based radar systems, custom printed circuit boards (PCBs) for space-borne data processing, and highly integrated mechanical packaging for undersea communication terminals. Core mechanical competencies span precision fabrication, additive manufacturing, and 5-axis machining. The group concentrates on high-complexity parts, quick-turn capabilities, and activities that require concurrent engineering with program teams. Core PCB capabilities include design for manufacturability (DFM), automated solder paste dispensers, precise pick-n-place machines, and automated optical inspection systems. Assembly, integration, and test capabilities include integration spaces, clean rooms, vibration testing, thermal testing, and space simulation chambers. The Group focuses on state-of-the-art prototyping capabilities, technical excellence, exceptional collaboration, and outstanding operation.
