About the role
MILVETS Systems Technology, Inc. is seeking Cable Technicians to support data center infrastructure projects in multiple U.S. Locations. Technicians will assist with the installation, routing, testing, and documentation of fiber optic cabling systems within active data center environments. This role is ideal for individuals with structured cabling, telecommunications, or data center experience who are committed to safety, quality, and teamwork.
Functional Responsibilities
- Pull, route, and install fiber optic cabling through trays, ladders, pathways, and cabinets.
- Perform patching and cross-connect activities in Main Distribution Frame (MDF) and Intermediate Distribution Frame (IDF) environments.
- Dress and secure fiber optic cables according to industry standards and project requirements.
- Apply labels and maintain organized cable management systems.
- Read and interpret work orders, diagrams, connectivity maps, and installation instructions.
- Conduct basic fiber testing and verification.
- Document completed work and communicate progress with supervisors and project teams.
- Operate lifts and work safely in active data center environments.
- Follow all customer, site, and company safety requirements.
General Experience
- Experience in structured cabling, telecommunications, network infrastructure, or data center environments.
- Experience pulling, routing, and managing fiber optic cabling.
- Familiarity with patch panels, cross-connects, and cable management practices.
- Ability to work from drawings, work orders, and technical documentation.
Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of Single Mode (SM) and Multi-Mode (MM) fiber optic systems.
- Understanding of fiber connectors, handling procedures, and installation best practices.
- Experience installing fiber in trays, ladder racks, and cabinets without damage.
- Ability to maintain clean cable pathways and accurate labeling standards.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts including switches, ports, optics, and link connectivity.
- Experience using fiber testing equipment such as Visual Fault Locators (VFLs), power meters, and Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs).
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
Required Certifications
- OSHA 10 Certification required; certification must be current within the last five (5) years.
- Candidates with OSHA 10 certifications older than five (5) years must renew their certification within sixty (60) days of hire.
- Verification of OSHA 10 Certification is required during onboarding.
- Scissor Lift and/or Boom Lift Certification
Desired Certifications
- Fiber Optic Technician Certification
- BICSI Certification
- Data Center or Structured Cabling Certifications
Additional Requirements
- Must successfully complete a 1-hour Online Safety Orientation during onboarding.
- Must review and sign the Construction Code of Conduct during onboarding.
- Must be able to work safely in active data center environments.
- Able to travel to project locations as required.
- Able to lift, carry, and handle installation materials and equipment.
