About the Role

This position exists to determine and execute the best course of action to balance the supply of purchased and fabricated materials with demand while meeting departmental and corporate goals such as inventory investment and inventory turns. As a Buyer/Planner, you will work with moderate to high-risk suppliers, exercise a moderate level of autonomy in decision-making, and engage in project-related tasks. Growth and development are key aspects of this role, offering pathways to leadership or technical expertise.

Responsibilities

• Negotiate with suppliers for goods and services to secure the best possible price and service guarantee.
• Analyze and explain purchasing variances.
• Support supplier quality improvement initiatives and manage supplier quality returns.
• Analyze material requirements for assigned items and issue purchase order releases or manufacturing orders to support the master product schedule (MPS).
• Expedite and de-expedite orders based on changes in production or customer demand.
• Work with other departments to research and resolve inconsistencies or discrepancies in system vs. actual information.
• Maintain system planning parameters and data integrity for assigned parts and subcontract services, including order quantities, lead times, due dates, safety stock, and supplier promise dates.
• Communicate current or potential supply shortages to appropriate personnel to enable alternative planning.
• Execute inventory reduction plans to significantly increase turnover rate.
• Complete special projects on time as assigned by the Director of Materials and the Supply Chain Manager.
• Develop standard costs based on market and economic factors.
• Conduct on-site reviews of supplier facilities and assess product/process capability and capacity to evaluate current and potential supplier qualifications.
• Execute and communicate Engineering change notices to the production floor.
