Job Summary

The Buyer I is responsible for managing a portfolio of purchased raw materials sourced from third-party domestic suppliers. This role includes reviewing demand requirements, issuing purchase orders, monitoring delivery schedules, and maintaining targeted inventory levels. Working closely with departments—such as Production, Planning, Sales/Marketing, Engineering, and Quality—to ensure customer needs and business objectives are consistently met.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of purchased raw materials and monitor inventory levels.
  • Review demand requirements and issue purchase orders to suppliers.
  • Track supplier delivery schedules and performance.
  • Analyze supplier quotations and recommend sourcing decisions.
  • Support supplier negotiations and contract activities.
  • Research market trends and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, reports, and documentation.
  • Partner with Production, Planning, Engineering, Quality, Sales, and suppliers to support business needs.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within purchasing and supply chain operations.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or technical degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 0 - 2 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

  • Knowledge of purchasing, supply chain, and inventory management principles.

Knowledge & Competencies

  • Understanding of purchasing and supply chain processes.
  • Ability to evaluate supplier performance and delivery schedules.
  • Basic negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a strong attention to detail.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in manufacturing, healthcare, pharmaceutical, medical device, or other regulated industries.
  • APICS, ISM, or other supply chain-related certifications.
  • Experience working directly with suppliers and inventory management systems.

Pay

$68,700–$78,700

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Primarily works in an office environment with occasional exposure to manufacturing and warehouse settings.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasionally required to lift or move up to 20 pounds.
  • May occasionally work near moving equipment or production areas.
  • Moderate noise level typical of office and manufacturing environments.
