Buyer I
About the Role
The Buyer I role supports procurement efforts for engineered-to-order projects for modular solutions, including datacenters, packaged air and/or chilled water systems, power plants, and more, all within an MRP-driven environment. Buyers manage assigned projects, source commodities and expense types, develop new suppliers, ensure contractual requirements are met, and recommend final purchase decisions.
Responsibilities
- Maintain frequent communication with suppliers from order placement to receipt to ensure quality and schedules are met.
- Develop and monitor supplier recovery plans for quality issues or schedule delays.
- Communicate risks and changes of supplier orders to appropriate personnel.
- Solicit and review supplier quotations.
- Support the prequalification process for potential suppliers.
- Reconcile Bill of Materials (BOMs) to planned orders and issued Purchase Orders (POs), working with Configuration Management and Purchasing to resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain supplier PO promise dates and receipt of materials in the ERP system.
- Advise senior management of non-standard contractual issues that may create legal or business risk.
- Maintain and report metrics on supplier performance and other assigned objectives.
- Maintain good relations with supplier personnel.
- Resolve receiving discrepancies by comparing purchase orders to delivery documentation.
- Ensure an uninterrupted flow of materials, supplies, and services required to operate the organization.
- Follow up on purchases through correspondence or telephone to expedite orders, changes, or updates to specifications.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

- Microsoft Office Suite experience; basic Excel skills required.
Requirements
- 2-5 years of experience in purchasing/expediting in a custom-engineered, make-to-order, or engineer-to-order manufacturing environment using ERP/MRP systems.
- Understanding of general manufacturing practices, policies, and processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- APICS CPIM certification.
- Experience in MRO purchasing, electrical commodities and equipment, and labor/services.
- Contract review and interpretation skills, with prior hands-on experience.
Education and Training
Bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma acceptable with appropriate industry experience.
Physical Requirements
- Position is 80% to 95% desk-based, working with a computer.
- Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount frequently (e.g., lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling).
- Performs activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception, and field of vision necessary for data analysis, computer operation, and extensive reading.
- Subject to inside environmental conditions.
