About the role
We are seeking a Buyer I based in Cartersville, GA. Reporting to the Production Control Manager, this role drives the advancement of supply chain processes and daily material replenishment activities to meet customer demands. The Buyer I leads tactical efforts to achieve Strategic Plan objectives, with a strong emphasis on cost reduction, and serves as the plant’s subject matter expert for supplier and product qualifications. Experience in lean manufacturing or a business system-based company is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Support on-time customer delivery and meet inventory turn objectives.
- Solicit competitive proposals, evaluate RFQs, prepare sourcing recommendations, create purchase orders, facilitate changes, and expedite POs.
- Reconcile pending invoices and update master file records as needed.
- Take ownership and actively maintain proper order processing, including DoA, GL accuracy, and data entry.
- Participate in strategic sourcing decisions to achieve corporate goals and objectives.
- Outline MRO purchasing activities for execution by the team.
- Resolve issues by performing root cause analysis and implementing solution/preventative action plans.
- Collaborate and maintain open communication with plant personnel/departments including Quality, Logistics, Finance, and Manufacturing to obtain the best pricing, quality, service, and delivery.
- Develop and monitor standard costs for raw materials.
- Streamline processes, improve raw material cycle times, and oversee supplier-managed inventories.
- Manage ad hoc projects and reports to support the development and implementation of MRP systems; manage databases associated with procurement modules.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in a business discipline or a combination of experience and education.
- Less than 1 year of procurement experience required.
- Procurement/Supply Chain negotiating experience in an industrial environment required.
- Proficient with MS OS and general purchasing software solutions; experience with JDE/Oracle strongly preferred.
- Experience with inventory control programs and a working knowledge of manufacturing equipment and systems.
- Strong practical skills within a Lean manufacturing environment are highly desirable.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in time and project management.
- Ability to work in a team environment and as an individual contributor.

Milestones
- Within 3 months: Complete immersion at Atkore; gain a basic understanding of product construction, MRP programs, BOM structures, purchasing systems, work order systems, and JDE.
- Within 6 months: Run MRP and place orders for standard stock and non-stock orders with minimal support (POs will still be reviewed by DoA; non-standard items may require more time).
- Within 12 months: Establish an RFQ system, develop new suppliers, and quantify cost savings on a monthly/quarterly basis through negotiating better deals, developing alternate suppliers, and performing buy-make analysis.
Pay
As of the date of this posting, the pay range for this position is $52,240 - $71,830. Placement in the range depends on competencies, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business needs. Other compensation may include overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and incentives.
