About the role
Coordinates activities related to the procurement of materials, products, and services for Silfex in support of daily operations.
Responsibilities
- Assures materials, products, and/or services are ordered and delivered on schedule in a cost-effective manner while meeting all quality and corporate standards.
- Maintains timely control and accuracy of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and other documents to ensure accurate retention of records through ERP software.
- Analyzes requirements of materials, products, or services, including preliminary specifications, preferred supplier, and date needed.
- Solicits and evaluates proposals for requested materials, products, or services.
- Investigates and/or interviews potential suppliers to determine if they meet specified requirements.
- Advises company personnel or management on the appropriate supplier to be used.
- Negotiates the lowest possible cost balanced against optimum quality and production needs.
- Implements purchase contracts that comply with company and government regulations.
- Coordinates cost-effective methods to distribute materials or products.
- Tracks supplier performance in quality, service, cost, and delivery.
- Develops and maintains working knowledge of the Silfex Quality Management System and applies Quality Procedures and Operating Procedures as appropriate.
- Follows all company safety policies and reports unsafe conditions to management.
- Assists in applying lean manufacturing concepts and 5S.
- Performs tasks related to special projects or assignments.
- Performs other duties as assigned by department management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; or a High School Diploma/GED with 5+ years of purchasing experience.
- Certification as an Accredited Purchasing Practitioner (A.P.P.), Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.), or Certified Purchasing Professional (C.P.P.) is desirable.
- Proficiency in personal computers, including internet use and software such as Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts like fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization.
- Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work effectively both individually and in a team.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to perform successfully under minimum supervision.
- Ability to establish credibility with management, staff, and employees.
