About the role

Serve as systems liaison between the education, research, and administrative functions of the university and Digital Technology Solutions to help business units achieve their desired business goals. This senior business systems analyst (BSA) role is part of the Catalyst Application Services Team and serves as the technical liaison for the Financial Aid module of our PeopleSoft Campus Solutions application (Catalyst). It primarily supports UC's Student Financial Aid Office, along with other core university business areas, such as the Office of the Bursar, Enrollment Services and others.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business partners and support one or more highly complex business processes requiring design or integration of technical solutions that may cross multiple functions of the business or organization to align technology solutions with business strategies.
  • Conduct data gathering and analysis to understand business strategy requirements.
  • Serve as technical lead and may have resource management responsibilities.
  • Establish requirements, methods, and procedures for routine maintenance.
  • Contribute to and may provide direction for business planning sessions and to ensure understanding of business goals.
  • Develop, write, and communicate business requirements and functional specifications for the implementation of business solutions.
  • Provide recommendations for business processes redesign and documentation as needed for new technology.
  • Responsible for business case development and presentation.
  • Assist in defining quality guidelines and standards.
  • Oversee and assist in production support.
  • Coach and transfer knowledge to all team members.
  • Verify compliance and ensure adherence to standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor testing process to ensure business results are adequately tested with minimal risk. Ensure test strategies involve appropriate integration and process components. Delegate approvals as appropriate.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot client and user issues, identify technical needs, and develop recommendations for resolution.
  • Analyze performance metrics to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Partner with external vendors and/or consultants to resolve issues and develop solutions. May assist in negotiation efforts for contracts with external vendors or clients.
  • Evaluate vendor solutions to ensure compliance with requirements and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure all applications are documented according to best practice standards and promote effective use of IT by educating users on system functionality. Assist in the development of user guides and training documentation for systems.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related field.
  • Eight (8) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
  • Four (4) years of relevant technical or business work experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Extensive, hands-on experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, with demonstrated expert-level proficiency in the Financial Aid module
  • Expert-level query writing skills within PeopleSoft Campus Solutions (PS Query)
  • Demonstrated experience with PeopleSoft Equation Engine
  • Expert data analytics skills with the ability to write, optimize, and interpret complex SQL queries
  • Understanding and use of 3C's, specifically BI Publisher/Communication Generation
  • Proven track record of identifying and resolving data integrity issues with a results-driven approach
  • Deep knowledge of federal financial aid policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Self-directed learner whose curiosity drives them to stay current on evolving industry and technology trends
  • Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working within a higher education environment, with a strong understanding of institutional SIS operations and student-facing processes
