About the role

The Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Business Specialist supports the day-to-day operations and programs within the EH&S department. This role ensures accurate financial processing functions, monitors financial transactions, and provides technical support.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures accuracy in financial processing functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, recharge billing, travel/entertainment, gift accounting, cashiering, and collections.
  • Manages grants and reviews/reconciles standardized financial data and transactions for errors and missing data.
  • Maintains quality customer services to internal and external clients, addressing inquiries and resolving issues.
  • Applies professional financial and accounting concepts to perform analyses of financial services such as researching discrepancies and tax implications.
  • Supports the Diving and Boating Safety programs by monitoring operational budgets and expenditures.
  • Provides technical support and assists with administrative tasks related to documentation and recordkeeping of diver training records.
  • Assists in recruiting and onboarding/offboarding within units.
  • Manages the fleet services maintenance schedule and road calls for all UCSC EH&S vehicles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent experience/training.
  • Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices.
  • Demonstrated ability with financial accounting principles, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge, analyze, and interpret policies and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather and organize information for basic financial analysis assignments.
  • Effective verbal communication and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent judgment and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Proficiency in using google sheets, spreadsheets, and database software.
  • Knowledge of or experience with university systems, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications

Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications, and experience. Full benefits package available.

Pay

Budgeted Salary: $31.35 - $33.94 / Hourly.

Schedule

Full-time, Fixed Percentage of Time: 100%, 40 Hours per Week.
