Business Development Representative
Position Summary
B&M Builders is seeking a driven, relationship-focused Business Development Representative (BDR) to identify, pursue, and develop new business opportunities across our civil construction, paving, and commercial mechanical (HVAC) lines of business. In this hybrid role, you will build long-term relationships with general contractors, facility owners, property managers, and other target clients throughout the Sacramento and Northern California market, generating high-quality, qualified opportunities that align with the company’s strategic growth objectives.

B&M Builders is a leading asphalt, concrete, and civil construction firm based in Rancho Cordova, serving the greater Sacramento and Northern California region. Our services include roadway construction, site development, asphalt paving, concrete, ADA upgrades, and commercial mechanical/HVAC through our B&M Mechanical division. We are building the business development function to match our reputation in the field.
Compensation & Benefits
Total Target Compensation: $80,000 – $115,000+ (base + performance incentives)
Base Salary (draft range): $60,000 – $75,000
Incentive Structure: Performance-based incentives rewarding qualified opportunity generation, repeat/negotiated work, and pipeline contribution

Objectives & Key Responsibilities
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities through outreach, research, calling, networking, and relationship-building activities.
- Develop relationships with target clients aligned to company sales personas — general contractors, facility owners, and property managers.
- Initiate first-contact conversations and maintain consistent, professional communication with prospects.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships that support repeat and negotiated work opportunities.
- Attend client meetings, site walks, industry events, and networking functions across the territory.
- Qualify opportunities and gather high-level project information prior to handoff to estimating or leadership (without committing pricing, schedule, or scope).
- Maintain accurate records of contacts, opportunities, and activity in company tracking systems (CRM).
- Coincide closely with the Sales Manager on key pursuits, account strategy, and pipeline reviews.
- Represent B&M Builders professionally in all external interactions.
What this role is NOT responsible for:
- Preparing cost estimates or bid pricing;
- Negotiating contract terms;
- Managing projects after award;
- Committing to schedule, means and methods, or pricing.

Education & Experience
- Experience in construction-related business development, sales, or client-facing roles preferred.
- Familiarity with civil construction, paving, HVAC, or commercial construction markets is a strong plus.
- Experience using a CRM system to manage contacts and pipeline.
- High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree a plus but not required.
Physical Requirements & Other
- Reliable personal transportation for regular external client engagement, site walks, and networking events across the territory.
- Ability to walk active construction and commercial sites for client meetings and walks.
