Business Development Manager, Small Market

ProService Hawaii · Honolulu, HI · 3 wk ago
HybridSales$80k–$100k/yrFull-time

About the role

As Hawaii's leading Professional Employer Organization (PEO), ProService Hawaii empowers small businesses by providing HR infrastructure, payroll expertise, and benefits packages. The Business Development Manager is central to this mission, focusing on building relationships and closing new business.

Responsibilities

  • Drive new business growth by managing the full B2B sales cycle — from cold outreach through close — independently and to quota
  • Build and maintain a healthy pipeline through canvassing, cold calling, referrals, and community networking across Oahu
  • Conduct discovery meetings that surface the real needs of local business owners and match them to ProService's HR, payroll, and benefits solutions
  • Develop targeted outreach strategies across industries, adjusting your approach based on what the market and your pipeline are telling you
  • Represent ProService at networking events and in the community, including occasional evening or weekend engagements
  • Collaborate with teammates to share what's working, contribute to a culture of performance, and celebrate wins together

Requirements

This is a quota-carrying field sales role with clear milestones and real accountability from day one. Within your first year, you're expected to run full discovery meetings independently, build a strong pipeline by mid-year, and hit your annual revenue and activity targets. The ramp is supported, including assistance obtaining your Hawaii State Resident Producer License for Accident & Health, but the expectation to learn fast and execute is not optional.

Qualifications

  • A proven track record of closing new business in a B2B environment — managing a full sales cycle, handling objections confidently, and winning deals through persistence and relationship-building
  • The ability to listen before pitching — asking good questions, picking up on what's unsaid, and tailoring your approach to the client's actual needs
  • A strong commitment to setting ambitious goals for yourself and holding yourself accountable — knowing your numbers, tracking your own pipeline, and treating your quota as a floor
  • An understanding of the Hawaii business community — recognizing that trust takes time to build and being willing to put in the work to earn it
  • A competitive spirit and a collaborative mindset — competing hard and being genuinely invested in the team's success and willing to share what's working

Skills

Experience in HR, payroll, or employer services is a plus, but strong sales fundamentals and genuine drive matter more. You should be energized by Hawaii's local market, be willing to put in the work to build relationships, and be comfortable with consistent outbound activity.

Benefits

ProService offers a comprehensive benefits package including fully paid healthcare, 401(k) matching, paid parental leave, student loan assistance, employee assistance programs, and paid time off. There's also an uncapped commission structure tied to performance, and high performers have a clear path to advancement within the sales track and across the broader ProService team.

Pay

The base compensation for this position is $80,000 – $100,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation is tied to performance, and high performers have an uncapped commission structure that pays $60,000 upon achieving quota.

Schedule

This role is based out of our Hawaii Kai office. When you're not out prospecting or meeting with clients, you'll work a hybrid schedule — in the office Tuesday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
