About the role
This is a ground-floor opportunity to build the Northeast foodservice business for Amylu. The Business Development Manager is a hunter-focused role responsible for developing new business across key leverage operators and regional chain accounts, with the freedom to shape territory strategy in a market with real white space. The existing book in this territory is limited: this role is for a builder who wants to establish coverage, relationships, and pipeline from scratch and see their impact on how the territory takes shape. Distributor partnerships are central to growth: opening code items currently stocked at assigned distributors, expanding distribution of those SKUs, and converting non-compliant operators under GPO contracts to compliant purchasing. The role also carries responsibility for the Klement's sausage brand.
Responsibilities
- Own new business development across the Northeast territory for both Amylu and Klement's, with direct accountability for pipeline, close rate, and volume against annual targets.
- Turn distributor relationships into real volume growth: convert non-compliant GPO accounts and open new code items at assigned distributors to expand operator placements of Amylu product.
- Develop and execute account-specific strategies for named strategic targets in-region (e.g., large chain, hospitality, and distributor-managed accounts), coordinating with the VP on pricing, contracting, and legal terms.
- Convert pipeline into sustained new distribution and volume growth quarter over quarter, maintaining a clear, current view of what's moving and what's next.
- Maintain a strong read on the regional market, tracking which chains and operators are growing, opening new units, or shifting suppliers.
- Represent both brands at required trade shows and manage a scheduled slate of distributor and operator appointments.
- Partner with Product Development, Marketing, and QA on account-specific issues, new item positioning, and resolution of quality concerns affecting active or prospective accounts.
Requirements
- 5+ years of direct foodservice sales or business development experience; experience with a protein or meat manufacturer strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated track record of new account acquisition and territory build-out, not just management of existing relationships.
- Working knowledge of GPO/compliance dynamics and broadline/distributor go-to-market.
- Comfortable operating with limited existing infrastructure and building process, relationships, and pipeline from scratch.
- Strong CRM discipline and reporting habits; able to maintain accurate pipeline data without oversight.
- Based in or able to travel extensively within the Northeast territory.
Skills
- Builder mentality: energized by creating structure and process where none exists, not just following an established playbook.
- Self-starter who sets their own pace and priorities without close oversight.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity, with incomplete information and a territory scope still taking shape.
- Curious about the market, always tracking what's changing with chains, operators, and distributors before it's common knowledge.
- Resilient through rejection and the longer sales cycles typical of new account development.
Territory
Core territory: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine. Located near a major metro within territory.
