Business Center Supervisor

About the Role
The NYC Department of Finance (DOF) administers the city’s tax revenue laws fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service. The Customer Operations Division oversees DOF Business Centers, the City Register’s Office, and the Land Records, Adjudication, and Collections divisions. Responsibilities include processing tax payments, parking violations payments, and other charges collected by DOF; recording property transfers; adjudicating parking and camera violations; and managing enforcement activities related to unpaid business and excise taxes, parking fines, and Environmental Control Board summonses.
The Business Centers, located in each of the five boroughs, communicate amounts due for payments, maintain quality control of department records, and deliver exceptional customer service. They issue releases for impounded vehicles, enroll customers in payment agreements, and assist with parking ticket hearings.
The Brooklyn Business Center is seeking a highly motivated, organized individual to serve as the Business Center Supervisor. Reporting to the Business Center Assistant Manager, this role involves overseeing multiple areas of the center, including cashiering and customer service.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and oversee multiple areas of the Brooklyn Business Center, including Cashiering and Customer Service.
- Supervise staff, maintain and update employee files, including evaluations, disciplinary actions, and time and leave records.
- Reconcile daily receipts from cashiers and perform closeout procedures at the end of shifts.
- Train and update staff on new or changing rules and policies.
- Work at the cashier’s window during active situations as needed.
- Serve as assistant manager in the absence of the center assistant manager.
Requirements
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or
- An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, including one year of administrative supervisory experience; or
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, including one year of administrative supervisory experience.
- Education and/or experience equivalent to the above, with all candidates required to possess one year of administrative or supervisory experience as described.
- Education above the high school level may substitute for general clerical/administrative experience (but not for the one year of administrative or supervisory experience) at a rate of 30 semester credits for 6 months of experience, up to a maximum of 3½ years.
Preferred Skills
- Ability to multi-task, work independently and under pressure while maintaining a calm demeanor.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and TEAMS.
- Knowledge of STARS and PTS systems preferred.

Pay
$61,656.00 – $70,904.00
