Position Summary

The Business Analyst is a key contributor on the product management team, responsible for translating business needs into clear, actionable requirements that drive product development in a fast-paced environment. This role works closely with the Director of Product Management, engineering, and business stakeholders to gather, document, and validate requirements that support the delivery of high-impact technology solutions. This role operates in a Microsoft-based development environment, collaborating closely with engineering teams using Azure DevOps, SQL Server, and modern .NET-based solutions.

Essential Tasks

  • Requirements & Analysis

    • Elicit, document, and manage detailed business and functional requirements through stakeholder interviews, workshops, and process analysis
    • Translate business objectives into user stories, acceptance criteria, and process flows for development teams
    • Analyze existing workflows and systems to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement
    • Collaborate with engineering teams to refine requirements based on technical constraints, data considerations, and system dependencies
  • Product Support

    • Partner with product managers to maintain and refine the product backlog, ensuring stories are well-defined and prioritized
    • Support sprint planning, backlog grooming, and product release activities
    • Absorb and assist in validating delivered features against acceptance criteria and business intent
    • Create, maintain, and manage work items (epics, features, user stories, defects) in Azure DevOps
  • Stakeholder Engagement

    • Serve as a liaison between business stakeholders and the development team to ensure shared understanding of requirements
    • Facilitate requirements reviews, walkthroughs, and sign-off sessions with relevant stakeholders
    • Communicate status, risks, and dependencies clearly to the Director of Product Management
  • Documentation & Reporting

    • Maintain clear, version-controlled documentation including BRDs, process maps, and data flow diagrams
    • Track and report on backlog health, requirement completion, and outstanding open items
    • Contribute to product analytics efforts by helping define KPIs and interpreting usage data
    • Document data-related requirements, including source systems, data definitions, and reporting considerations

Experience and Education

  • 2+ years of experience in a business analyst or similar role within a technology-focused organization

  • Strong ability to translate ambiguous business needs into structured, actionable requirements

  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and participation in sprint ceremonies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences

Additional Preferred Experience

  • Experience with AI

  • Exposure to product analytics, customer journey mapping, or UX research

  • Background in, or familiarity with, the insurance or financial services industry

  • Experience writing SQL queries or working with data to support analysis

  • Working knowledge of database server concepts (tables, relationships, basic queries, data validation)

  • Experience working in a DevOps environment (boards, backlogs, sprint planning, and reporting)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 25 pounds
  • Repeated use of sight to read documents and computer screens
  • Repeated use of hearing and speech to communicate on telephone and in person
  • Repetitive hand movements, such as keyboarding, writing, 10-key
  • Walking, bending, sitting, reaching and stretching in all directions
