About The Role

The Business Analyst within Harvard's Office for Sponsored Programs (OSP) Pre-Award team plays a crucial role in supporting the university’s research and sponsored programs. Reporting to the Business Operations and Reporting Manager, this position involves leading operational analysis, process improvement initiatives, and project management efforts to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of pre-award services. The Business Analyst collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders, including research offices, faculty, and leadership, to develop data-driven solutions, streamline workflows, and support strategic initiatives. This role requires a detail-oriented professional capable of working independently, managing multiple projects, and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information. The position offers an opportunity to develop deep expertise in sponsored research administration and contribute to Harvard’s mission of fostering innovation and scholarly excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in research administration or related fields
  • Advanced knowledge of sponsored research regulations and compliance standards
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and integrity
  • Prioritize and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Discretion and sound judgment in handling confidential information
  • Familiarity with Harvard-affiliated institutions or research environment (preferred)
  • Master’s degree or terminal degree in a relevant field (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business partners to document current processes, map workflows, and recommend improvements
  • Lead strategic analyses to inform business decisions and operational enhancements
  • Absess new initiatives by reviewing performance metrics and supporting operational planning
  • Develop change management strategies, training materials, and communication plans
  • Support and lead analytical projects to optimize pre-award processes and systems
  • Create and maintain project plans, timelines, and tracking tools for ongoing initiatives
  • Compile data and draft proposals, presentations, and reports for management review
  • Identify opportunities for program development and process refinement
  • Lead small workgroups, facilitate stakeholder engagement, and generate recommendations for leadership
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with various Harvard offices and external partners
  • Contribute to strategic planning and the broader research administration community at Harvard
