About the role

The Salvation Army is an inspiring place to work, serving people with food to shelter opportunities and almost everything in between. This position supports the Port Angeles Corps with administrative, kitchen, and food bank tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Open/Close the building as required.
  • Answer and/or respond to phone calls and assist clients.
  • Greet clients and maintain the lobby area.
  • Manage computer files and statistical data.
  • Schedule showers and meals.
  • Handle AP/AR requirements.
  • Supervise staff of the Feeding Program and Hope Market.
  • Recruit volunteers for kitchen help, cleaning, Hope Market, bell ringing, and Christmas assistance.
  • Record, disburse, and report in-kind donations.
  • Act as the Safety Coordinator and lead safety meetings.
  • Assist Corps Officers with various tasks.
  • Coordinate seasonal assistance signups, volunteer coordination, toy/food sorting, and distribution.
  • Assist with donor relations for the angel tree program.
  • Assist with volunteers and paid workers scheduling for kettles.
  • Assist with kettles being delivered and picked up during the Christmas Season.
  • Enter seasonal assistance data.
  • Maintain maintenance records for all vehicles.
  • Drive for meetings and bank deposits, various errands.
  • Coordinate food ordering with kitchen staff and Corps Officers.
  • Manage volunteers working in the kitchen and Hope Market operations.
  • Assist with food distribution on Tuesday and Thursday Hope Market days.
  • Prepare “Gift in Kind” reports.
  • Monitor incoming phone calls, take messages, coordinate calendars, and schedule meetings.
  • Maintain Child Safety database and related documents.
  • Assist with various programs and seasonal activities and events.
  • Operate basic office equipment and tools.
  • Perform general maintenance of property.
  • Oversee that all areas of buildings and grounds are cleaned and maintained adequately.
  • Operate a computer.
  • Process written, visual, and verbal information.
  • Operate basic warehouse equipment such as dollies and pallet jacks.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Some college preferred.
  • Two years’ administrative or professional experience.
  • Valid WA driver’s license, clean DMV.
  • Proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, and email.
  • Good judgment, professional appearance, and confidentiality of sensitive materials and information.
  • Familiarity with The Salvation Army’s purpose and goals.
  • Team player and ability to work with multiple supervisors.
  • Physical requirements: sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, grasp, push, pull, lift up to 50 lbs, operate a computer, process written, visual, and verbal information, use basic warehouse equipment.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent; some college preferred.
  • Skills: Minimal supervision, ability to manage change, strong communication skills, proficiency in computer programs, good judgment, professional appearance, confidentiality, familiarity with The Salvation Army, teamwork, ability to work with multiple supervisors, valid WA driver’s license, clean DMV, ability to meet fleet safety driving guidelines.

Parental Leave: One week (5 business days) of paid leave at the employee’s normal rate of pay for births, adoptions, and foster placements. Sick Leave: 12 days annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after 3 months’ service time. Paid Vacation: 2 weeks annually accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions. 4 weeks annually accruing from day one, for exempt positions. Accrued vacation eligible for use after 6 months’ service time. Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year.
