About the role
Under general supervision, operate a public transit vehicle (passenger coach) for either or both the general public, fixed-route service, or the demand-response service; perform light vehicle maintenance; assist elderly and disabled riders; and perform related work as required.
Responsibilities
- Drive a motor coach on general public fixed-route system and/or the demand response system transporting the general public, elderly, disabled, and other special needs citizens as authorized to various locations from their homes or on a fixed route;
- Select effective routes;
- Maintain departure and arrival times as scheduled;
- Ensure passenger comfort and safety including fastening safety belts;
- Perform small errands including carrying packages, opening and locking doors, and escorting passengers to their destination;
- Provide route and transfer information to passengers;
- Inspect motor coach prior to operation;
- Fuel motor coach as needed daily;
- Operate lift equipment as needed;
- Operate a mobile radio;
- Assist with passenger comfort and safety measures if necessary;
- Keep vehicles clean and report any mechanical defects;
- Keep necessary records and reports;
- Perform minor vehicle maintenance;
- Receive and dispatch calls for service;
- React appropriately to cerebral palsy movements, epileptic seizures, hearing loss deficiencies, blind and limited sight constraints, and orthopedic limitations;
- Aid the dispatcher with paperwork as needed;
- Perform related work as required.
Requirements
- Possession of a valid California Commercial Driver's License with Passenger (P) endorsement and a good driving record;
- Possession of a current standard First Aid Certificate within thirty (30) days of hire;
- Possession of a current CPR Certificate within thirty (30) days of hire.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of: California Motor Vehicle Code applicable to the operation of vehicles in transporting citizens;
- Ability to: Safely operate a public transit vehicle; Comfortable with physical limitations of the aged and disabled; Communicate with citizens having oral and auditory disabilities; Carry out oral and written instructions; Maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work; Physically able to lift, carry, and/or push 50 pounds on a regular basis; Operate a mobile radio for the purpose of receiving and dispatching calls for service.
