Bus Assistant

Responsibilities

• Aid students in entering or exiting the bus in a safe manner.
• Show the highest ethical standards and personal integrity; report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior to a supervisor or manager.
• Secure students using seat belts, car seats, or wheelchair restraints as needed.
• Maintain vigilance over passengers to ensure compliance with safety regulations and student conduct rules.
• Communicate and apply discipline according to company policy when necessary.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old; for New York School Bus Assistants, must be at least 19 years old.
• Must meet physical and medical requirements.
• Must successfully complete and pass all training and attend safety meetings and in-service meetings.
• Must have a keen attention to detail and sufficient dexterity to handle various restraints and secure wheelchairs.
• Must be able to interact positively with children and maintain effective pupil behavior management.
• Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be capable of lifting and assisting students when necessary.
