About the role
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Bureau of Workers' Compensation Specialist/Patient Access Coordinator (BWC/PAC) is responsible for providing excellent customer service while processing patient demographic and insurance information efficiently and accurately.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring that all workers’ compensation related injured/ill patients are authorized by his/her employer to be seen and treated.
- Completing the necessary BWC paperwork for injured/ill patients.
- Assisting providers in fulfilling the treatment needs of the injured/ill worker from the time the patient presents until the patient is discharged from care.
- Providing accurate, up-to-date information regarding products, services and general procedures to consumers (clinical staff and patients).
- Scheduling return appointments and/or other appointments as assigned.
- Gathering accurate appointment, demographic and other patient information to support clinical needs.
- Supporting physicians and consumers by coordinating their requests and addressing their needs in one transaction.
- Solving routine and complex customer problems and directing customers to appropriate resources.
- Communicating regularly with clinical staff, medical secretaries, and staff within the product/service line to ensure customer and department staff needs are met.
- Creating a positive first impression.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Certification or vocational training may be preferred.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience required.
- 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in using a variety of software packages including the Electronic Medical Record, scheduling, and registration systems, document management software, and others.
Skills
- Expertise in product, process or service line area (physician appointment scheduling, full-service scheduling; pre-registration and registration; and communication).
