Responsibilities
- Read and accurately interpret batching sheets and other production documents to determine the order and quantity of ingredients.
- Stage ingredients to be batched, including “super-micros” pre-weighed by Quality Assurance personnel.
- Clean totes to contain the batches.
- Record production-related data, including:
- Lot numbers and supplier for each ingredient on batch sheets.
- Batching date code on ingredient tags.
- Plan number for which gravy is intended.
- Inspect each ingredient bag for condition, foreign material, grain lumps, off color, off odor, infestation, or expired materials.
- Perform batching by weighing each ingredient per the card, labeling and staging totes to stay 15 batches ahead of the production schedule.
- Maintain cleanliness of the gravy room, filtration system, and dry ingredient area.
- Vacuum or wipe clean all totes prior to batching gravies.
- Cover unused ingredients to prevent contamination, tape opened bags shut, and date/initial each one.
- Participate in team meetings and support team concepts, policies, and B.E.S.T practices.
- Foster team cohesiveness and address any issues with the team leader.
- Support Simmons’ operating systems (e.g., quality, security, company policies) and communicate concerns or improvement ideas.
- Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
Requirements
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Experience within a manufacturing or process environment with knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Machine operation experience preferred.
- Ability to lift and move bags of ingredients and totes weighing 40–60 pounds.
- Willingness to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Military experience valued.
Physical Activities & PPE
- Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk.
- Must wear steel-toed shoes, ear plugs, hair net, and safety glasses.
