Building Supervisor Membership
Location: YMCA of the Suncoast John Geigle Branch
Rate of pay: $15.00/hr - $15.60/hr. Opportunity to increase rate to $15.65/hr upon completion of required training.
About the role
The YMCA of the Suncoast is seeking a magnetic, meticulous, mindful Member Service superhero to take customer service efforts to the next level. The Building Supervisor is responsible for the general safety and security of the building, serving as the go-to person for incidents, performing walkthroughs, and completing facility closing reports. Upon hire, qualified candidates will complete an internal training program within the first 60 days, resulting in the opportunity for possible promotion to the Membership Specialist position, which includes a higher rate of pay and expanded responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Respond to lightning notices appropriately.
- Serve as the go-to person for incidents (altercations, first-line complaints, emergency situations).
- Perform walkthroughs of the building with a focus on SMART and safety.
- Complete facility closing reports.
- Deliver exceptional customer service to members, guests, and program participants.
- Create a friendly and welcoming environment by greeting all who enter the Y.
- Respond to general questions and assist with membership changes or transactions.
- Contribute to membership sales by giving tours, promoting memberships, and providing information about programs and events.
- Cultivate relationships with all members and potential members.
- Provide services including membership and program receipting, conducting tours, handling member phone inquiries, and assisting the Membership Director with relationship-building activities.
- Complete all requirements of the Member Specialist I position within 60 days of hire date.
- Perform various clerical duties, including filing paperwork and inputting program registrations.
- Help develop and participate in Member Appreciation/Retention activities.
- Assist with the annual membership data audit.
- Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity.
- Keep supplies organized, maintain and clean the facility, and care for equipment.
Requirements
- Minimum of 17 years of age.
- High school graduate or equivalent required; college degree with emphasis in Marketing or Communications preferred.
- At least 1 year of previous customer service experience required.
- Broad overview of the YMCA as a local, national, and international movement preferred.
- Must complete the following trainings upon hire: Intro to Y's Cause & Culture, Ys Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You: Service with CARE.
- Must work toward meeting the criteria of the Member Specialist I position within 60 days of hire, including: Foundations of Listen First with Listen First Skills Assessment, Get SMART, Three Keys to Successful Family Engagement, Living our Cause for Frontline Leaders, Cause Driven Tour Workshop with Post Workshop Evaluation, and Active.net Skills Assessment.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification preferred.
Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in personal computer and data entry, including typing 30 words per minute and Microsoft Office.

- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs (e.g., boxes of supplies).
- Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods while demonstrating manual dexterity.

- Auditory, visual, and verbal abilities to communicate via phone and in person and to operate standard office equipment.
