About the Role
The Building Services Worker II performs advanced custodial duties including specialized floor care, general cleaning, and building maintenance across University of Georgia campus facilities. This role requires availability for the specified shift and occasional weekend/evening work as needed.
Responsibilities
- Perform floor care with large specialized equipment: carpet cleaning and extraction, stripping/waxing/burnishing floors, and refinishing wood floors
- Ensure safe operation and perform operator-level maintenance on assigned equipment
- Sweep, dust, wash, wet/dry mop, perform light floor maintenance, and vacuum to maintain campus floor cleanliness
- Collect and remove trash and recyclables; clean and disinfect counters, restroom fixtures, equipment, and furnishings in laboratories, offices, classrooms, restrooms, clinics, recreational facilities, and assigned work areas
- Clean and restock restrooms; maintain adequate supplies in janitorial closets
- Perform bodily fluid clean-up and specialized viral/bacterial disinfection when needed
- Replace minor light bulbs from an 8' ladder
- Conduct weekly walk-through building inspections for cleanliness and equipment safety; complete and submit inspection reports to lead/supervisor
- Secure and unlock university buildings; deliver, receive, and transport supplies and materials
- Clean windows, sills, walls, furniture, and other equipment in and around university buildings and grounds
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of related experience
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions in English for safety, training, and job-related communications
- Availability to work specified shift (Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-4:00 PM) and occasional nights/weekends as needed
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs, push/pull custodial carts up to 40 lbs
- Ability to load and unload heavy floor care machines
- Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, and working with hands above head
- Ability to move throughout buildings including climbing stairs and riding elevators
- Ability to work from 8' ladders
- Ability to travel/walk to buildings in assigned area
Preferred Qualifications
- Custodial experience with proficiency using vacuum cleaners, wet/dry vacuums, T-1 scrubbers, and other small machines
- Experience with specialized floor care equipment for carpet extraction, stripping/waxing, and refinishing wood floors
- Experience with large specialized floor care equipment for carpet cleaning, extraction, strip/wax/burnish, and wood floor refinishing
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Flexibility to work night shifts and weekends as needed
Pay & Schedule
- Salary: $38,650.00
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-4:00 PM
- Voluntary on-call with some nights/weekends as needed to meet organizational needs
