Responsibilities
- Leads a work group that drives delivery trucks throughout the University and off-campus to deliver and/or pick up furniture, janitorial supplies, machinery, surplus, scrap metal, rental equipment, or other items as needed.
- Completes oversight of the 755 Alexander Rd. Warehouse Facility, managing the loading of trucks, setting up delivery routes, and unloading of materials.
- Manages inventory, establishes and maintains communication with suppliers, carriers, and others involved in the shipping and delivery, ensuring goods arrive safely and on time.
- Responsible for properly handling incoming and outgoing products through the receiving docks (755 Alexander, 300 Washington, and 693 Alexander) and stocking and handling components.
- Oversees the maintenance of all equipment, including rental items, material handling equipment, warehouse infrastructure, warehouse yard, and fleet vehicles.
- Supports, implements, and manages appropriate safety guidelines, investigates injuries or unsafe conditions, and ensures all vehicles and equipment are operated safely.
- Assigns vehicle keys to Transportation and Logistics staff and assists in hiring qualified team members.
- Maintains employee labor, attendance, and punctuality records, schedules work orders, ensures employees have received necessary safety training, and encourages safe work practices.
- Conducts or organizes safety training, identifies workplace hazards, and fosters a culture of safety.
- Utilizes technological tools such as Maximo, SharePoint, TAM, OT Tracking, and electronic mobile devices.
- Communicates effectively within the department, across Facilities lines, and with external customers.
- Evaluates and suggests changes in working conditions and equipment use to increase efficiency.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic knowledge of computer technologies.
- Minimum three years of experience and knowledge of equipment and methods used in the transfer of furniture, heavy boxes, machinery, and rental equipment.
- A valid driver’s license at time of hire, along with a current Federal D.O.T. medical form.
- Proficiency in operating material handling equipment capable of transferring heavier objects.
- Ability to obtain Forklift Certification within three months of hire.
- Previous experience working in a union staff environment or in Logistical and Warehouse services preferred.
