Community Development administers all adopted land use regulations and policies, building and construction codes, and fire safety and prevention codes and guidelines for the unincorporated areas of Utah County. Administration includes land use ordinance creation and maintenance, permit and license plan reviews and inspections, and education and compliance efforts.

About the role

Under general guidance and direction of the Director - Community Development, supervises, plans, coordinates, and directs the activities of the building and permit inspection functions. Enforces state and local building codes to ensure compliance and provides supervisory leadership to other building staff.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, plan, coordinate, and direct building and permit inspection activities
  • Enforce state and local building codes to ensure compliance
  • Provide supervisory leadership to building inspection staff

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or higher in Construction Management or a related field
  • Six years of work experience in building inspection, plan review, or construction, including at least three years performing building inspection and/or plan checking activities
  • At least one year in a supervisory or lead capacity in building inspection or building construction
  • Valid Combination Inspector License with the State of Utah's Division of Professional Licensing
  • International Code Council (ICC) Inspector designation for building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical (must maintain)
  • One additional ICC certification in plan review or as a Certified Building Official
  • Certified Building Official designation or completion of at least forty hours of management training from a state-approved program or accredited college
  • Valid driver's license; must obtain a valid State of Utah driver's license within sixty days of employment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field

Pay

$92,393.60 - $106,225.60 annually

Schedule

8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday
