About The Position

The Village of Tinley Park is seeking a Building Official. The Building Official is part of the Village’s Community Development department and reports directly to the Community Development Director. The Community Development team includes a staff of 17 full-time professional and administrative staff.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, supervising, and coordinating the Building Division’s activities and operations with a staff of 10 full-time employees.
  • Authorized enforcement officer of the Building Code, including the location, design, materials, construction, alteration, repair, equipment, maintenance, use, occupancy, removal, and demolition of buildings, structures, and appurtenances located in the Village of Tinley Park.
  • The Acting Director in the absence of the Community Development Director.

Requirements

  • An outstanding work ethic, positive attitude, and self-motivation.
  • Familiarity with principles, practices, and objectives of municipal government.
  • Customer service focus.
  • Knowledge of residential and commercial building applications.
  • Effective management during periods of high volume.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate a dedicated staff.
  • Efficient and effective management of daily operations.
  • Minimum five years’ experience performing residential and commercial plan reviews in building, accessibility, electrical, energy, and mechanical aspects of building design.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively communicate technical and non-technical information.
