About the role
The Building Official serves as the City's lead authority on building code administration, overseeing plan review, inspections, permitting, code enforcement, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Oversee plan review, inspections, and permitting processes to ensure compliance with the Oregon State Building Code and local regulations.
- Provide technical guidance and support to contractors, developers, property owners, City staff, and the public.
- Ensure all projects meet safety and quality standards.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.
- Enforce building codes and regulations to protect public health and safety.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED.
- At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in building inspection, construction management, plan review, code administration, code enforcement, or a closely related field.
- A valid Oregon driver's license.
- An Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC) or equivalent certification.
- Additional certifications such as A-Level Plans Examiner, Structural Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, Residential Inspector, and Fire & Life Safety Plans Examiner are desirable.
